The Last Train  
The Last Train comes out of the days when American soldiers in Russia ran the Trans-Siberian Railroad during the Russian Civil War. Although World War I was over, the US Army ran the railroad until the Red Army broke through the lines of the anti-Communist White Army in the terrible winter of 1919/1920. This novel features Jake Greenberg looking for the killer of three murdered American railroad men in the Siberian city of Omsk. When the Bolsheviks attack, Jake, with a small band of Americans, pulls together the last train out of the city.

The Second Enemy is set in Shanghai in 1923.  An important warlord is killed at Jake's side on the front steps of his casino.  The warlord had just left a secret meeting with Sun Yat-sen at the casino aimed at unifying China.  Who shot him?  Were the Russians flexing their muscle?  Was it a rival warlord?  Or was the Green Gang trying again to gain control of the casino?  The police show little interest.  But at the police station, Jake meets Claire Turner, a savvy and attractive American reporter for the Shanghai Daily, who is doing a story about the murder.  When she shows that she has some valuable information, Jake reluctantly agrees to work with her.  Soon others are killed and both Jake and Claire are in grave danger as they close in on the killer.
